Karen Jacob, IN

WAND Chair

Karen Jacob has enjoyed a long "peace career." She began at an organization that focused on Citizen Diplomacy tours to the then-Soviet Union and later worked for Physicians for Social Responsibility. Karen serves as president of WAND of Northern Indiana, an active chapter that organizes many local peace and justice events.

Wiltina Bultman, MD

Wiltina is a graduate of Morgan State University with a Masters in Social Work and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Salisbury University with a dual degree in Social Work and Sociology. She is the chief of staff for Senator David Harrington of the 47th legislative district in Prince George's county. Wiltina is a proud mother and wife.

Susan Cundiff, OR

Cundiff spent 34 years in public education as a school counselor where she learned the value of mediation. She draws on those experiences to find parallels between conflicts in middle schools and conflicts in world affairs. She is chapter leader of Oregon WAND and enjoys finding creative ways to depict our nation’s budget priorities. Since retiring, she has taught graduate level counseling classes at Northwest Christian University as an adjunct professor. Additionally, Cundiff serves on the Safe Schools Network, a local human dignity group that encourages diligence in providing safe environments for LGBTQ students and staff.

Del. Barbara Evans Fleischauer, WV

An attorney and small business owner, Fleischauer started a private law practice in 1983 and served from 1987-1991 as General Counsel for District 31 of the United Mine Workers of America. She worked as an Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Division. In the West Virginia legislature since 1994, she has been a leader on such social justice issues as improving domestic violence laws, funding child protective services and foster care, and protecting the environment.

Hon. Bettieanne Hart, GA

After two terms in the Georgia General Assembly, and a judicial appointment, Hart served as Deputy District Attorney for Fulton County, GA. for more than thirteen years. In addition to fifteen years as a trial lawyer, she has a graduate degree in social work , with experience in community organizing, housing development, facilitating non-profit groups and community economic development projects. She is a life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; a criminal justice advisory board member of AIU Online University; a trustee of the Sapelo Foundation; Chair of the Interfaith Childrens Movement; a member of the Georgia State Bar's Committees on Children and the Courts and B.A.S.I.C.S (an ex-offender training initiative); a member of the board of the Georgia Coalition of Black Women and an advisory board member of the Spelman LEADs Center. Upon retirement from the Fulton District Attorney's office last October, she returned to private practice and has become certified as a mediator.

Fern Katz, MI

WAND Treasurer

A retired math teacher and professional volunteer, Fern is a longtime member of WAND Michigan, having served as President, Treasurer, Chair of the WiLL Lobby Corps, and more. She is involved in various organizations, including the National Council of Jewish Women and Michigan Public Education Task Force. She represented the National Council of Jewish Women at the UN in 1995 in Beijing, at the Fourth World Conference on Women. Fern was a major player in getting the Southfield, MI City Council to pass a resolution opposing the Patriot Act.

In 2001 Fern was awarded the Heart of Gold Award from the United Way of Southeastern Michigan. Fern is now an elected trustee of the Southfield Public School Board.

Alice Lynch, MN

Alice is Metro Program Coordinator with Circle of Parents, a a project of Prevent Child Abuse MN. She has developed and presented training sessions on family violence, chemical dependency, restorative justice practices, HIV/AIDS, and forms of oppression such as ageism and racism. Lynch is also an Instructor at the University of Minnesota. In 2005, she was one of the "1000 women" nominated together for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Jill Steger Murphy, OK

Murphy was a delegate to the 2000 Democratic National Convention. She co-founded Kosovo Refugee Relief Effort at Trinity University in Texas and has volunteered with several other service organizations. She co-authored a successful Headstart grant for public schools in Wewoka, OK.

Hon. Dorothy Rupert, CO

Rupert served in the Colorado Senate from 1995 to 2000 and in the Colorado House for eight years. An educator for 35 years, she was a counselor and English teacher at the high school level. She has been active in historic preservation, increasing penalties for hate crimes, the elimination of mandatory time for non-violent offenses and universal access to health care. In 2005, she was one of the "1000 women" nominated together for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Judy Rutherford, MI

Judy is the co-founder of the Southwest Michigan Chapter of WAND. She is particularly interested in making changes in the government by helping to elect women. She holds a vice chair position with the Cass Co. Democrats to help further that end. She holds degrees from Western Michigan University in Counseling Psychology, Sociology, and Education. She spent most of her career as an addiction’s specialist working with both adolescents and adults.

Hon. Delia Garcia, KS

At 27, Rep. Garcia was the first ever Latina and the youngest women ever to be elected to the Kansas Legislature. Some of her campaign materials are displayed in the State of Kansas historical museum. Delia has been at the forefront when it comes to Health Access, Affordable Health Care, and Preventative Health. Rep. Garcia also serves on many advisory boards, including the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Kansas Advisory Board and the U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute.
